The author deserves many thanks for making these materials available. I read Mr. Ereksen's book on the Lincoln inquiry a few years ago, and it was the first that I had ever heard of these materials There are even historical markers to some of the people who were involved in this on my town square. I had always wondered why they were commemorated in such a manner. I was curious to see the materials, so I tracked the majority of them down to the Evansville Public Library and Willard Library. They weren't easy to get to in either location and they couldn't be taken home to read at your leisure. To the annoyance of the staff I had copies made of everything available. The total cost was over a hundred dollars. These documents serve as a precious record of our pioneer history in addition to their portrayal of the world that young Abe grew up in. Mr Bartelt has reviewed the documents and his notes serve to clarify them. They are not only a reflection of pioneer times but also of a dedicated group of local amateur historians who made an effort to preserve pieces of our legacy before they were lost in the dusts of time. Anyone with an interest in Lincolns youth or in the history of the "pocket section " of Southwestern Indiana needs this for a reference. Thank you Mr. Bartelt and Mr. Claybourn.
